The following goods may be imported into Dominica without incurring customs duty by passengers aged 18 and above:
200 cigarettes or equivalent of tobacco products; 2l of alcoholic beverages; tools for professional use.
Customs authorities may enforce strict regulations concerning temporary importation into or export of items such as firearms, religious materials, antiquities, medications, business equipment and other items . Baggage Allowance

When traveling on American/American Eagle to and from Dominica , the total weight baggage allowance per passenger is as follows:
* Checked bags not to exceed 70lbs total weight plus one carry on bag that cannot exceed 40 lbs.
* In Dominica excess baggage is not allowed.
* Oversized baggage is not allowed
* Overweight baggage of 5lbs or more is not allowed.
* If one bag is over 50lbs there will be a charge of $25.00usd. However the total weight of both bags cannot exceed 70lbs.
Very often at the point of departure from the US, these restrictions are often overlooked by the airline check in agent. They are not overlooked upon departure from Dominica.
Animal Health Guidelines to obtain an Import Permit for the Importation of Pets into The Commonwealth of Dominica
All live animals including dogs or cat imported into the Commonwealth of Dominica must be accompanied by an import permit issued by the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock Development Unit. Evidence must be provided that the animal complies with all import requirements before an import permit will be issued. Information is available from:

Other Dominica customs information
A yellow fever vaccination certificate is required from travellers over one year of age coming from infected areas.
Typhoid may be a risk in rural areas.
Food drink: Mains water is normally chlorinated, and whilst relatively safe, may cause mild abdominal upsets. Bottled water is available and is advised for the first few weeks of the stay. Drinking water outside main towns may be contaminated and sterilisation is advisable. Milk is pasteurised and dairy products are safe for consumption. Local meat, poultry, seafood, fruit and vegetables are generally considered safe to eat.
Other risks: Hepatitis A is common, as are bacillary and amoebic dysentries. Outbreaks of dengue fever occur in the area, as well as dengue haemorrhagic fever.
Health care: As visitors are required to pay up front for treatment, international travellers are strongly advised to take out full medical insurance.
